Child Allowance is a social support system for parents/guardians who are raising child(ren), aiming to promote children's sound growth. This allowance is to be provided until the completion of junior high school.
- The terms and conditions of Child Allowance have changed since 1 October 2011.
- Those who had been receiving the said allowance according to the previous system are required to reapply by using a new form.
A “認定請求書” (Nintei Seikyusho: Reapplication Form) was sent in early November to those who had received Child Allowance until September 2011. Please fill out and submit the form to the Kawasaki City Government's Children & Family Section.
(The reapplication form is accepted at the City Government's ward offices or branches.) Should you complete the reapplication procedure by 31 March 2012, you are eligible for Child Allowance from October 2011 and onward. (Otherwise you will not be entitled to receive the allowance for the period between October 2011 and the month of reapplication.
- Eligibility
- Children before the completion of junior high school who reside in Japan. (Children of the same age bracket who are studying abroad may be considered.)
- Non-Japanese children of the same age bracket who have Alien Registration certificate. (excluding Short-stay Visa holder)
- Amount of Allowance until March 2012

- Those who have moved in to Kawasaki City, or those who have given birth are eligible for Child Allowance.
- Commencing one month after the submission of application. Prospective applicants are advised to report the Child Allowance department at any ward office, branch, or sub-branch, for the submission of the application form and other required documents.
- Those who are moving out of Kawasaki City are required to resubmit the application to the municipal office to where they are moving.
